Social Programs
SDHDA administers and supports a variety of social programs that connect South Dakotans in need with safe, secure housing statewide.
Paint—South Dakota
Since 1998, Paint—South Dakota has provided homeowners in need with paint, primer and volunteers to spruce up their homes. The program has helped to give a fresh coat of paint to more than 500 homes and has brought together more than 6,000 community volunteers.
Emergency Solutions Grants
This grant program offers those who meet certain criteria the opportunity to access funds for emergency shelter and homelessness prevention, including but not limited to short- and medium-term rental assistance and rapid rehousing.
Disaster Relief Funding
When the occasion arises, federal funding can be delivered at the state level to accommodate households impacted by weather-related disasters, including flooding, storms and blizzards. Households must meet certain income and geographic criteria to apply.
Continuum of Care
Through a partnership of service providers, organizations and individuals, Continuum of Care offers services and tools to support people who are homeless or at risk of becoming so. These include transitional services, emergency services and permanent supportive housing.
Section 811 PRA
The Section 811 Project Rental Assistance (PRA) program was developed to help provide rental assistance to maximize the ability of extremely low-income households with intellectual or developmental disabilities to live independently.
