PIERRE, S.D. (09/18/17) – South Dakota Housing Development Authority’s (SDHDA) annual housing conference concluded recently with the recognition of an individual for their commitment to affordable rental housing in South Dakota. Mary Jo Minor, president of Mills Property Management, received the award at SDHDA’s award reception.

Minor has been in the housing industry for 28 years, working with Section 8, USDA-Rural Development, tax credit, conventional and commercial properties.

“Mary Jo is a responsible broker, owner, supervisor and mentor to those within her company,” said Executive Director Mark Lauseng. “Her impact on the rental housing industry in South Dakota reaches far beyond the community of Brookings. Mary Jo’s commitment to providing homes for people impacts individuals and families in all of the Eastern South Dakota communities where Mills Property Management has a presence.

Minor defines home as a safe place; a place to relax; where family grows.  She says, “Home is a place you go at the end of the day and it’s yours.”

Lauseng says Mary Jo’s commitment to the rental housing profession and the people she serves makes her exactly the type of individual that is recognized with the Elmer D. Whitepipe Award of Excellence.

About the Elmer D. Whitepipe Award of Excellence

Elmer D. Whitepipe (Buzz, as he was commonly known) helped formulate the South Dakota Housing Development Authority in 1973 and served on its initial Board of Commissioners from 1974 through 1976.  He became a Housing Management Specialist on the SDHDA staff in December of 1976 and was instrumental in the creation of the rental housing division at SDHDA where he worked for 29 years.  Throughout those years, Elmer had a huge impact on the housing industry in South Dakota. SDHDA feels it is important to recognize those who go above and beyond the call of duty, who exemplify an extraordinary work ethic, care deeply about the people served, or who live day in and day out as everyday heroes so that SDHDA can carry on with the legacy that Elmer left behind.
