Public Input on Housing Choice Requested

PIERRE- The State of South Dakota is conducting an Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice (AI) and the public’s input is needed.  The AI is a review of barriers that impact the rights of fair housing choice.  Public and private policies, practices and procedures affecting housing choice are examined and serve as the basis for fair housing planning.

The AI provides information to policy makers, service providers, administrative staff, housing providers, lenders and fair housing advocates and assists in building public support for fair housing efforts.

South Dakota citizens and organizations assisting others in addressing housing needs are encouraged to offer input and comments.  The South Dakota Housing Development Authority asks that people take a few minutes to complete an online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SDAI2017 and plan to attend an upcoming meeting in their area.

The Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Survey was created to gather information regarding any barriers that exist for individuals.  The survey will also capture information from housing developers, governmental officials, landlords and service providers.   SDHDA will be randomly giving away three $50 VISA gift cards for those who complete the online survey and provide their contact information.

Public meetings are being held to gather additional information, input and comments on the following dates, locations and times specified:

  • July 24, 2017 – Pierre at SD Housing Development Authority, 3060 E. Elizabeth St., 2 p.m. CDT
