SDHDA Board Elects Leadership
(Pierre) – The South Dakota Housing Development Authority’s (SDHDA) Board of Commissioners elected officers during their annual meeting in August.
Bob Sutton, the Executive Director for the South Dakota Community Foundation, was elected Chair of the seven-member Board. Prior to the SD Community Foundation, Sutton spent 12 years in Pierre, serving as an association executive and lobbyist for county government, the oil industry, and the financial services industry. He has also served as a vice president at Citibank in Sioux Falls.
“I feel truly honored to lead a Board which works so diligently to establish policy with the SDHDA staff,” said Sutton. “This past fiscal year SDHDA provided homeownership for 2,407 individuals and families and affordable downpayment loans to 586 homebuyers; provided rental assistance to more than 5,500 units giving households an affordable place to live; and helped create or rehabilitate more than 1,100 units of affordable single and multifamily housing.”
Cindy Mydland, Director of Clinic Operations for the Sioux Valley Clinic in Brookings, was elected Vice Chair. Prior to working for Sioux Valley, Cindy was the Community Bank President for Wells Fargo Bank in Brookings and brings 14 years of lending and banking experience to SDHDA’s Board. She has also previously worked for the Governor’s Office of Economic Development as well as the South Dakota Housing Development Authority.
“I am excited to carry this leadership role within SDHDA’s Board and ready to work with all of our partners in the decisions and challenges we will face over this next year,” said Mydland. “The South Dakota Housing Development Authority and its Board and staff are completely committed to helping to improve the quality of life for our State’s residents.”
Karl Adam, elected Treasurer of the SDHDA Board, has worked for Dakota State Bank of Pierre and Blunt for almost 11 years. In 2001, Adam became President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to that, he worked in the George H.W. Bush administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington D.C. and then for former Governor’s Mickelson and Miller in the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
“The decisions this Board makes truly affect our residents. We work to make the dream of affordable homeownership a reality, the opportunities for quality rental housing a viable option, and services to some of our State’s special needs populations available,” commented Adam.
Also serving on the SDHDA Board, which establishes policy for the organization, are Linda Barker from Sioux Falls, Curt Jones from Britton, Jim Roby from Watertown, and Zack Word from Rapid City.
