Governor Appoints Watertown Attorney to
SDHDA Board of Commissioners

Governor Rounds announced recently the appointment of James C. Roby to the South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) Board of Commissioners.

Roby, a life-long South Dakota resident, is currently a partner in the Watertown firm of Green, Schulz, Roby, Oviatt, Cummings & Linngren LLP, where he has been practicing law since 1979.

“SDHDA serves a vital purpose to South Dakota residents,” commented Roby. “I look forward to working with the rest of the Board, the staff, and the many partners of the Authority, helping to improve our state’s housing opportunities.”

In addition to the SDHDA Board, Roby also serves on the South Dakota Building Authority Board of Directors and the South Dakota Educational Enhancement Funding Corporation. He has also served on various boards and committees locally as well, including the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce, Focus Watertown, and the Watertown Development Company.

“Jim’s legal background and his experience in economic development for both the city of Watertown and the state of South Dakota will bring incredible value to the SDHDA Board,” said John Rothstein , Chairman.

“Governor Rounds has emphasized the important role housing plays in economic development and viability in South Dakota by including SDHDA as a major piece of the 2010 Initiative,” said Roby. “I am excited to be a part of that vision and believe that we can truly help make the quality of life even better in South Dakota .”

Roby joins current Board members Rothstein, Linda Barker of Sioux Falls, Cindy Mydland of Brookings, Bob Sutton of Pierre, Zack Word of Rapid City, and Curt Jones of Britton.

Roby earned an undergraduate degree in Journalism from South Dakota State University and received his law degree from the University of South Dakota . He is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association, and the Codington County Bar Association.

SDHDA’s Commissioners, who are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the South Dakota Senate, serve to establish policy for the organization.
