The South Dakota Housing Development Authority has recently hired a consulting firm to prepare a Housing Needs Analysis for South Dakota.
Much of the information will be gathered from the release of 2000 Census data, while the remainder will come from local interviews, phone surveys, and state data.
"Our state has changed dramatically since our last statewide study 12 years ago," says Vona Johnson, Director of Planning and Housing Development for SDHDA. "We are excited to see the results of this new report to assist us in making sound housing decisions for South Dakota."
The study is scheduled to be completed early next year, depending on the release of national Census housing data this summer.
The study will break down information by South Dakota's sixty-six counties, the market areas of Sioux Falls, Rapid City and eleven other major population centers, and the nine Indian reservations. The study will enable SDHDA and local jurisdictions to better evaluate housing needs of low- and moderate-income households and their housing-related services in order to target and coordinate the use of Federal, State, and local resources available for housing.
