HUD Regional Director Carson Speaks at Faith Based and Community Initiatives Workshop

On March 27, 2003, the South Dakota HUD Office hosted a one-day workshop for area non-profit organizations.

John Carson, the HUD Area VIII Regional Director in Denver and featured speaker, spoke on President Bush's Faith-Based and Community Initiative.

The workshop included a grant writing session taught by Dr. Jean Layton with the South Dakota Non-Profit Management Institute, a session on successfully utilizing available funding resources, and guidance to Faith-Based and Community Organizations on partnering with the federal government.

Panelists for the day included Rita Edwards with the Sioux Falls Fannie Mae Partnership Office, Stephanie Judson with the South Dakota Community Foundation, and Vona Johnson with the South Dakota Homeless Consortium and SDHDA.

Mikkel Beckman with the Corporation for Supportive Services, Minneapolis, MN, was a keynote speaker addressing the keys to accessing resources.
